EAR TAPING

INFO & VIDEO LINK

This page will consist of ear taping information and a video link

so you can see how I tape my puppies ears.

You will see and hear things that you may be unsure about. I will

do my best to explain a long the way.

I use 3M NEXCARE FLEXIBLE clear tape. It is stretchable and breathable for flexibility and stiff enough to make the ear stay straight up. You can also use MOLESKIN for the thin floppy ear that just does not want to stand. Moleskin and the tape can be found in Pharmacy's like WALGREENS CVS, WALMART and online at DRUGSTORE.COM. I buy mine at WALGREENS and online just because you can buy two rolls for the price of one in a double roll set instead of a one roll dispenser. MORE for the money!

If you have any questions about eartaping after seeing the video please ask. The video was made in 3 parts and the links to each can be found on this page.

One thing to understand about eartaping.....not all ears will want to stand. We can do the best we can to get them to stand if they do not stand naturally. It is not essential that they stand erect unless you are going to be showing your puppy/dog or if you prefer the "LOOK". Phalene( floppy ears) are just as pretty on a CHINESE CRESTED as they are erect. It does give the dog a different look. It is all personal preference.

It is a little painful sometimes when you are taking the tape off of the ears. They will cry occasionally. You have to be strong at heart to be able to take the tape off and on religiously. *Sometimes they will get ear infections because of the taping. *They can get excessive ear wax build up.

* You may smell a strong odor from the ear.

* They can scratch at the ear and hurt the outside of the ear     as well which may lead to infection from the scratching.

The key is to keep the ear as clean as possible in between tapings. Let the ear rest and breath before you retape again.

Sometimes it is essential to shave the ears of a puppy/dog before you tape. If the dog has very heavy ear hair or alot of ear hair you may want to shave the ear hair off. If you do not have any experience shaving an ear please take the dog to a groomer and have them do it for you before you tape. MOST groomers that have experience with CC's can shave the ear as well as tape the ears for you. Call around and ask different groomers if they have experience with CC's...you will be surprised at the ones that do.

I hope this information helps and if you have any further questions please feel free to ask....EMAIL ME!
